I am Michelle Davidson, clinical hypnotist and I am here to help you feel at ease with using this excellent tool to make change achievable. Hypnosis works for sceptics too!!
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool to create change. It uses trance state in order to create change at a deeper level. You already know you want change when you seek help, hypnotherapy is a tool that can fast track the change you desire. Wouldn’t it be nice to not even have to think about the unwanted behaviour?
How does hypnotherapy work?
People benefit from hypnotherapy as it’s a way to reprogram the subconscious mind. For example, a client wishes to quit smoking, why don’t they simply stop? The answer is that those who struggle to stop don’t have a conscious problem, they have a subconscious problem. The desire to smoke lies deeper in the automatic response system, deeper in the subconscious mind. Now the subconscious mind changes all the time, particularly through repetition – like a baby learns to walk through practice. Once you were a baby learning to walk and with practice walking became easy and natural for you. Automatic responses can also change through highly emotional events.
Hypnotherapy uses imagery and intention in order to create change quickly. Trance is used to get the conscious mind out of the way in order to establish communication with the subconscious. Hypnosis is a powerful tool for assisting you with positive change.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
You don’t have anything to fear from a professional hypnotherapist. However hypnosis is a powerful tool so choose a hypnotherapist who is a member of a reputable organisation such as the Australian Hypnotherapists Association. Members of such organisations support one another and must attend regular professional development. An ethical practitioner will not make you do anything you haven’t already consciously agreed upon. Ask around people you trust, ask for recommendations via social media such as facebook, check for hypnotherapists in your area who are members of hypnotherapy organisations.
Can I see a hypnotherapist over the internet?
Hypnotherapy is nicer in person, however more and more hypnotherapists are working over the internet. You may have become hypnotised incidentally whilst watching a movie, or travelling along a highway, you can become hypnotised and still have your eyes open and be able to follow instructions. It is often much more convenient to attend over the internet.
Can everyone be hypnotised?
Short answer is yes, if you can sleep, if you can daydream, you can be hypnotised. It’s often a matter of trust and letting go. A hypnotist will choose an induction that is comfortable and suitable for you in order for you to enter trance. If you suffer anxiety, all the more reason to seek help, with kindness and trust hypnotherapy releases anxiety. Even in the absence of what feels like a trance a beneficial change can be achieved.
Will my personality change?
No although you may be more comfortable to be yourself. You may have been angry or frightened which can suppress aspects of your personality. You may have turned to drugs or alcohol which had you escaping from rather than embracing life. People may see you as happier or calmer, but you will always be you.
How many sessions will I need?
Many clients get a significant shift in one 90 minute session. A minimum of 3 sessions about a week apart are recommended although many of my clients have achieved the change they came for in their first session and it has been their choice to return for further sessions only if needed.
What can hypnotherapy help with?
Viktor Frankl said “When we can no longer change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”
Hypnotherapy can meet the challenge to change the emotion around a situation. You know you need to change behaviour, hypnotherapy can instruct your subconscious mind to see the behaviour is destructive or toxic. A good hypnotherapist will give you some alternate way to meet the need the unwanted behaviour was attempting to satisfy. For example a sip of water and a big deep breath will satisfy the desire more effectively than the unwanted behaviour ever could.
Hypnotherapy can help with the following
Addictive behaviour such as smoking, alcohol consumption, drugs, nail biting, unhealthy eating.
Fears and phobias –spiders, flying, heights, frogs, public speaking, childbirth
Including but not limited to Bed wetting, sleeping, confidence, regression, spirituality, depression, ideal healthy weight.
